Asking for more, receiving less and returning nothing is a very basic and standard practice in government. If Mr Touchberry doesn’t know that then I am concerned about his viability as a candidate for the Sheriff’s office.
Sadly, many the families they are taking care of are in the same boat. I know dozens of 30yr olds raising kids BARELY making it with decent, but also underpaying jobs. They can’t afford to live here either. Some have moved and most are on assistance for healthcare and groceries.
I’d like to see someone trim the fat over all Indian river services before we further burden the community.
I was taught over 39 years ago that if you return money from your budget then you’re asking for budget cuts in the next year. So you get punished for doing a good thing, and that’s just a politically unsustainable policy. But the system is the system and that’s why returning money never happens.

It’s not that he doesn’t know that, I think the ideal of returning unused funds to the county is a great notion, however, rarely achieved.

Yes, the federal level is a bit more cynical. Here locally, it’s ceremonial, honored and applauded.
