The Sunshine Journal would like to thank our readers for being with us this past year. This Christmas season makes it one year since we first started publishing. There are a few people behind the scenes who have contributed to this online publication. One person in particular brought the design of the The Sunshine Journal logo to reality.
Kelsey Beaudoin is a local graphic designer and fine artist. In 2015, she launched Chickadee Designs. The company is a full-service design company, creating logos and marketing materials for various small businesses, specialty personal items, wedding announcements, as well as, conferences, events and corporate marketing. Her motivation is to serve the client’s vision. She comments, “I don’t ever want to start a project until I really understand the client's needs, dreams and heart. I believe great design matters and deserves a personal touch.”
Visiting the Chickadee Design website, a person will find creative testimonies through the sharing of great designs. Whether it be personalized stationery or full service logo design and corporate marketing, there is an assortment of examples from over the past decade. “I care about people and their businesses and I want to see everyone succeed. I believe in being a person of character and integrity, doing what’s best for others first,” she said adding, “Feel free to contact me at chickadeekelsey@gmail.com for specific project details. Through passion and excellence, let’s work together to invent something beautiful!”

Fine Art for Christmas

Vibrant art is at the heart of Ms. Beaudoin’s design. “I've been drawing and painting since I can remember. I was never the kid that wanted to play outside, but sit at a table doing arts and crafts all day. It's been like that my whole life,” she said.
There isn’t a better expression of her craft than her annual Christmas project. Each year, she hand paints glass-balled tree ornaments for Christmas. “I started making ornaments four years ago. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I even keep my tree up all year, decorating it for every season. When I started this project, I was working on an acrylic on canvas series called ‘Fish In Traffic’ and that style inspired these ornaments.”
Ms. Beaudoin creates the ornaments in small batches. After cleaning and hanging the glass balls, the painting is about eight layers including two coats of varnish. The ornaments take a week to dry and then each gets a tag and hand-dyed ribbon. She remarked, “Creating ornaments really captures my two favorite things; Christmas and creativity. It's easily one of my favorite projects and I look forward to it every year. I have clients that come back every year and add one to their collection.”
In 2022, she was commissioned to do many ornaments by a company. “I created nearly 50 ornaments as a corporate holiday gift to employees with a company's branding colors. They were thrilled with the results.”

She video captured the process and posted it to her social media. See it here. Her Facebook page is a great place to keep up on these limited beautifully colored ornaments. She said, “Each ornament is truly unique since they're made in small batches. I've named the ornaments by number, so each year, the names (or numbers) increase. This year started at 15 and I created over two dozen color schemes. It's the most I've ever created, but I'm increasing supply to keep up with demand. I sold out last year.”
