BREAKING: Brian Barefoot Skips Superintendent Workshop. Breaks Promise to Represent District.
Barefoot vowed last week to sit on the dais if he didn’t hear from DeSantis.
School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) observers were bracing for the possible appearance of Brian Barefoot for this morning’s superintendent workshop at the county commission building. In the March 14 newspaper edition of Vero News, Mr. Barefoot had informed reporter, Ray McNulty, that both of his letters to the Governor regarding the status of his resignation stated that if there was silence from Tallahassee on his resignation annulment request, than “he would reclaim his seat on the dais next Monday” for both the afternoon workshop, and evening business meeting.
At the noon workshop, Barefoot was not in attendance on the dais or even as a spectator. The Sunshine Journal attempted to reach Mr. Barefoot by text asking if he had received any word from the governor’s office. He has yet to respond.
The Sunshine Journal has also reached out to the Communications office of Governor DeSantis to see if there had been any dialogue with Barefoot. In the March 14 article at Vero News, it was mistakenly reported that Barefoot resigned on February 28 and attempted to rescind the resignation the following day, February 29. The actual date of Barefoot’s resignation was February 21st with his attempted rescinding of it, the following day.
In response to his resignation, the SDIRC Communications Director, Cristen Maddux, issued a statement on February 23rd regarding the Barefoot situation. She replied, “We have been made aware that Mr. Barefoot sent a letter to the governor rescinding his resignation after being made aware that his new home resides in district 5. We are awaiting guidance from the Governor’s office regarding this information.”
It seems nobody has heard a thing.
